{Cluster Attendance Policy}
Attendance
As a parent you have a legal responsibility to make sure your child receives a full-time education between the ages of five and sixteen.
A pupil’s success at school is likely to be affected negatively if their attendance is poor. Those who do not attend regularly may fall behind in their learning, leading to feelings of frustration and unhappiness.
As inclusive schools, the Cardiff West Primary School Cluster is committed to Article 28 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We believe that all young people have the right to an education, based on equality of opportunity, and that the school, in partnership with parents and carers, and other parties, must take measures to encourage regular school attendance and reduce rates of absenteeism.
School Attendance Officers
The Cardiff West Cluster Primary Schools have two allocated Schools Attendance Officers:
Kelly Light
Jayne Coughlin
The School Attendance Officers (SAOs) will provide the following support to the cluster primaries:
- Designated time spent in each of the primary schools where time is spent supporting the vision and values of the school and getting to know the school community
- Regular meetings with the school’s designated Attendance Lead where pupil’s attendance is monitored and followed up accordingly
- Making regular contact with parent/carers and visits to any pupils on the referral list
- Supporting welfare checks if and when necessary.
- Referring to the Education Welfare Service (EWS)
- Supporting Child Protection and Care and Support Meetings; if attendance is a contributing factor
- Support and advice as and when required throughout the school year.
Lateness
At Pencaerau Primary School we operate a 'late gate' initiative in an attempt to discourage lateness and identify any reasons why pupils are late to school. Please speak with the available member of the SLT or Miss Powell (FEO) with any concerns, we are always wanting to help!
If a child arrives late to school (09:05am) an adult must ensure that they sign into the schools 'sign in system' which is located in the school office area.
